The Jacksonville Jaguars were crowned the “winners” of the 2016 NFL draft largely due to their selection of Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey, but it appears that for the second consecutive year, their first round pick has suffered a knee injury during offseason workouts.
It is believed that the injury is a small meniscus tear in his right knee, suffered during offseason workouts with the Jaguars. The severity of the injury is unknown, but it is clear that Ramsey will be seeking a second opinion as soon as next week. Going back to last year, it was Jacksonville’s third overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft in Dante Fowler who also suffered a knee injury during offseason workouts. The situation is different considering the fact that Fowler’s injury was to his ACL, putting him on the sideline for the entire season.
The Jaguars just cannot catch a break with these offseason workouts, and all they can do now is just hope that his knee will be fine going forward. Meniscus tears are tricky because they can come in all shapes and sizes in terms of how severe they are. One big issue is that Jalen Ramsey did have microfracture surgery on his right knee in his sophomore year of high school. This is indeed the same knee in which he reportedly suffered a meniscus tear. How this impacts the whole situation is unknown as of right now, but I am sure we will get more details to this story later in the week.
